May 14-20
Lots to report on this week. We began our rotations... and so now I'm assigned to the farm field (see a portion of the farm fields below) for the next six weeks. I've also volunteered to be on the irrigation sub-rotation , so along with Sam, Pua, and the second year apprentice, Elizabeth, we'll be responsible for irrigating and setting gopher traps. This week we learned how to set sprinklers, calculate flow rates, and how to set drip irrigation lines. On Wednesday Orin taught a class on Pome fruits and then in the afternoon the farm held a strawberry shortcake festival...very yummy farm-grown organic strawberries and whip cream!! Friday nite Jim and his friends, along with Nancy, entertained us with their awesome musical talents...lots of dancing and mayhem. Today (Sunday), a bunch of us visited Camp Joy, which is a nearby farm begun by Jim Nelson, a former apprentice. A beautiful place with lovely goats! Some other photos will be included too, so just scroll down and enjoy...
